Matching Shots So the Cut Disappears

The least visible but most technically demanding part of colour grading is shot-matching — making footage from different times of day, cameras, or even different shoot days look like one continuous visual world. A corporate film with morning and afternoon interviews, or a brand film combining drone footage with ground-level cameras, needs every shot brought to matching skin tones, contrast and colour temperature before any creative grade is applied. Skipping this step is why some professionally shot footage still looks disjointed once edited together.

Grading for the Screen It Will Actually Be Watched On

A grade that looks perfect on a calibrated studio monitor can look flat on an iPhone or oversaturated on an uncalibrated office display — and most finished video is watched on exactly those uncontrolled screens. We grade with delivery context in mind: social and web content is graded slightly punchier to survive compression and small-screen viewing, while broadcast and cinema deliverables are graded to formal colour-space standards. Delivering one grade optimised for the wrong context is a common reason finished video underperforms visually despite a technically correct grade.
